For these tough Ironmen, age is just a number

SUBIC—A retired teacher from Canada and a former newspaperman were among the more than 1,000 finishers of the Philippines’ first full-distance Ironman on Sunday.

Canada’s John Wragg, who used to be a school teacher in Mississauga clocked 16 hours, 20 minutes and 6 seconds in the 65-69 age group of the Century Tuna Ironman Philippines here.

As of last year, the 67-year old Wragg has joined more than 220 full triathlon races—2.4-mile (3.86 kilometers) swimming, 112-mile (180.25 km) cycling and 26.22 miles (42.195 km) of running.

Also in the 65-69 group was Artemio “Jun” Engracia Jr., former News editor of the Inquirer, who  finished in 16:39:34.

Nick Baldwin of Seychelles and Liz Blatchford of Australia topped the race.
