CARMONA, Cavite—John Michael O’Toole hit an ace and an eagle in carving out a nine-under-par 63 Tuesday for the clubhouse lead over Robert Pactolerin in the $100,000 ICTSI Manila Southwoods Championship.
The long-hitting American also had six birdies and a bogey in a 31-32 effort that led the talented field’s assault on the complex’ well-manicured Legends course where almost half of the 119-strong field cracked par.
Jay Bayron was also working on a 9-under card with three holes left until threat of lightning forced tournament officials to call the first round. Bayron already had 10 birdies in his first 15 holes.
Pactolerin had eight birdies in his 65 even as Darren Beck of Australia was another shot back after a 66.
Angelo Que shot a 69, while defending champion Clyde Mondilla returned a 70 like another pre-tournament favorite, Antonio Lascuña.
