PH loses opener to Netherlands in women’s Fiba 3×3 World Cup

The Philippines stumbled in its first game in the Fiba 3×3 World Cup, losing to the Netherlands, 21-11, in the group stage in the women’s division Friday at Philippine Arena.

The hosts, who are debutantes in the tournament, failed to slow the Netherlands’ constant attack that saw all four of its players appear on the score board in the Pool D matchup.

Karin Kuijt led the world no. 7 federation with eight points, all coming from the two-point territory, while Jacobine Klerx added six points.

Janine Pontejos had six points for the world’s no. 49 federation while Afril Bernardino and Jack Animam combined for five points.

Loyce Bettonvil and Sharon Beld added four and three points, respectively, for the Dutch.

In Pool B, China went 2-0 after scoring victories against France, 16-14, and Switzerland, 21-20.

France is at 1-1 in Pool B after taking the opening game against Argentina, 19-9.

Switzerland and Argentina are also at 1-1 with both of its victories over Kazakhstan.

The Swiss beat the Kazakhs 16-14 while the Argentinians tacked a 10-9 win.
