Philippines goes winless in first day of Fiba 3×3 World Cup

The Philippines went winless in the opening day of the women’s division after losing to Germany, 12-10, in the group stages of the Fiba 3×3 World Cup Friday at Philippine Arena.

Perlas Pilipinas dropped to the bottom of Pool D with a 0-2 record, after also succumbing to Netherlands, 21-11, earlier in the day.

Laura Zdravevska and Wiebke Bruns led the Germans with four points apiece while Luana Rodefeld and Lara Müller combined for their own four points.

Afril Bernardino, meanwhile, paced the Philippines in a losing effort with six points while Gemma Miranda, Jack Animam combined for four points.

In the other matches, Spain topped Pool D victories over Hungary, 19-14, and Germany, 18-12, put the Spaniards at 2-0 with 37 points.

Hungary is at the second spot of Pool D with the 20-14 victory over the Netherlands gave the Hungarians a 1-1 record.

Although tied with the Netherlands at 1-1, the Hungarians are one spot ahead of the Dutch who are at the third seed of Pool D by virtue of its 20-14 victory.

The Philippine men’s team composed of Christian Standhardinger, Stanley Pringle, Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy plunges into action on Saturday against Brazil and Mongolia.
