Alaska has placed forward Calvin Abueva under indefinite suspension after the forward failed to report to the team for more than a week.

In a statement released Saturday, Aces team owner Wilfred Uytengsu said the team is aware of Abueva’s personal problems but the player’s actions do not excuse him from his responsibilities to the team.

“The Alaska Aces have placed Calvin Abueva on indefinite suspension following his more than one week absence from practice and failing to advise the coaching staff and management of his whereabouts,” said Uytengsu.

“While we understand Calvin may be going through some troubling personal issues, it does not obviate his responsibility to his team. The suspension is effective immediately.”

Head coach Alex Compton once said that Abueva has not returned their messages and no one in the Aces’ organization could reach the forward.

This also happened in January when the 6-foot-3 forward failed to show up to Alaska and Gilas’ practices.

Although Abueva has been suspended indefinitely, he can still play for the national team if ever he’s chosen.

“Alaska, however, will allow Abueva to play for Gilas if Coach Chot Reyes chooses to use him in the line up,” added Uytengsu.
