La Salle tries to bounce back from loss, battles National U; FEU tackles Lyceum

Spurned in its bid to keep an undefeated run going, La Salle hopes to bounce back from a stinging defeat when it face on-and-off National U Sunday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.

The Archers battle the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Centre hoping to get back from a 72-70 loss to San Beda recently and plunge into Tuesday’s showdown with fierce rival Ateneo on a winning note.

There’s very little at stake for La Salle with a quarterfinal berth already sealed, and it is the Bulldogs who will enter the game with a sense of urgency as their 3-5 record puts them precariously on the edge of the playoff circle.

In another game, Far Eastern U looks to maintain its hold of the Group B top spot when it takes on Lyceum at 5:15 p.m.

LPU has fielded mostly its bench in this tournament after opting to rest its starters, who competed in the recently concluded D-League Aspirants’ Cup.

At 1-4, Lyceum looks headed for an early exit.

Perpetual opens day’s schedule when it battles winless Emilio Aguinaldo at 10 a.m.

The Altas are coming off a loss to San Beda while the Generals hope to hunt down a win before exiting the tournament. After the Altas, however, EAC will have the vaunted San Beda in its schedule.

Letran, meanwhile, takes on Arellano at 1:45 p.m. while the Red Lions cap the day by resuming its hunt for a quarterfinal berth against University of the East.

Tuesday’s Ateneo-La Salle clash will be a benefit match, organizers of the tournament had earlier announced.

Proceeds from ticket sales for the “Battle of Rivals” will be used for the continued treatment of long-time tournament Barker Rolly Manlapaz, who is ill at the moment.

The league will sell separate tickets during the June 12 playdate, with one ticket covering the first two games scheduled and the second ticket for the last two matches, which will include the Ateneo-La Salle encounter.

The Gilas Pilipinas cadets take on EAC in the nightcap. Ticket prices for the second half of the scheduled quadruple-bill are as follows: courtside P450, Lower box 275, and Upper Box P100.
