Columbian enters playoff picture, ends skid at expense of Phoenix

Columbian stopped a three-game slide after beating Phoenix, 115-107, in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Import John Fields had 29 points, 26 rebounds and six assists but he wasn’t the only one producing big numbers for the Dyip, who rose to seventh place with a 4-5 record.

Glenn Khobuntin scored a career-high 18 points to lead five locals in double-figure scoring for Columbian.

“That was a big win coming off three straight losses,” said Columbian head coach Ricky Dandan. “This is really big for us because it puts us in a better position to contend for a playoff berth.”

Jerramy King added 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Rashawn McCarthy collected 15 points and eight assists while Eric Camson and Ronald Tubid chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively for the Dyip.

Columbian overcame an early double-digit deficit and established its own late.

Eugene Phelps and Matthew Wright combined for 66 points to pace the Fuel Masters, who suffered their third straight setback.
