Aby Maraño has been named captain of the Philippine women’s volleyball team that will compete in the Asian Games, Souteast Asian Games, and the AVC Asia cup.

The Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc., made the announcement during a fan event, organized by the Philippine Superliga, in Baguio.

“I’m really happy that I was given this opportunity and I’ve always said that my childhood dream was to be part of the national team but I never imagined that I would be the captain,” said Maraño in Filipino.

Maraño’s appointment is the first concrete development in the new team as the full roster is yet to be released.

F2 Logistics’ middle blocker will spearhead the roster that head coach Shaq Delos Santos, who replaced Ramil de Jesus almost two weeks ago, will handle.

“I accept this responsibility with all my hear and of course I thank God because I only wished for pan de sal he gave me a burger,” said Maraño. “He gave me so many blessings.”
