Ceres draws with Kaya

Ten-man Ceres-Negros kept its six-point gap at the top of the Philippines Football League after a thrilling 1-1 away draw with Kaya Iloilo on Saturday, while the Davao Aguilas ended a four-game losing spell at the expense of JPV Marikina.

The league’s top two teams battled tooth and nail in front of close to 2,000 fans at Iloilo Sports Complex with Ceres midfielder Mike Ott opening the scoring in the 86th minute and Shirmar Felongco grabbing the equalizer two minutes later.

Ceres was reduced to 10 men early in the second half when Omid Nazari was sent off for a second yellow card.

Over in Laguna, Davao finally picked up three points after a 3-0 win over JPV Marikina in a match cut short by heavy rains. Phil and James Younghusband and Dennis Villanueva scored for Davao. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
