The Philippines won’t go empty-handed after all.
Janine Pontejos, the Perlas Pilipinas spitfire, bagged a gold medal after winning the Fiba 3×3 World Cup shoot-out Tuesday night at Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Pontejos proved she’s the deadliest shooter in the tournament after torching the net with 14 points in only 41.86 seconds.
The victory by Pontejos gave the Philippines, which saw its men’s and women’s teams bow out early in the competition, something to cheer about.
Buoyed by the home crowd, Pontejos bested three other finalists in Alexandra Stolyar of Russia, Marin Hrvoje of Croatia and Maksim Dybovskii of Russia.
Both Hrvoje and Dybovskii earned the top two spots in the men’s division.
