Hernandez tabs Asian Games berth
Former Asian Youth silver medalist Enzo Hernandez breezed into the semifinals of the just-concluded Singapore Open Bowling Championships only to get blown away during the medal match.
Making the finals, however, proved enough for Hernandez to gain a spot in the national team bound for the 18th Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia, on Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.
Hernandez, a Wichita State University varsity bowler, will join Merwin Tan, Kenneth Chua, Raoul Miranda, Kenzo Umali and Jomar Jumapao in the men’s bowling team to the Games, where they are hard-pressed to capture a medal following a successful campaign in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (Aimag) in Turkmenistan last year.
Chua got a silver medal in the men’s individual contest at the Aimag while the PH women’s team of four, led by reigning World Cup champion Krizziah Lyn Tabora and Liza del Rosario, also brought home a silver.
