It was a tale of two halves for Phoenix’ Jeff Chan on Saturday night.
In the first half, Chan opened the game with 22 points but his fast start came to a screeching halt in the second when he scored just four against Rain or Shine.
Chan cooled off in the third and fourth quarters and the Fuel Masters also fizzled out on its way to losing to the Elasto Painters, 108-106.
“It’s frustrating that we never learn our lessons, every time that our opponent comes back from a deficit instead of responding what happens is we rush our offense,” said Chan in Filipino Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Phoenix led by as much as 19, 29-10 in the first quarter, but lost its rhythm in the final two quarters and was outscored by 14 points.
The Fuel Masters’ loss to the Elasto Painters was the third time in their four-game skid that they squandered a double-digit lead.
“We haven’t learned our lessons, this has been happening for several games already,” said Chan whose team dropped to 3-6 with a flickering chance for the quarterfinals.
“It’s frustrating because we’ve worked so hard in the first half and when the second half comes around we’ll let go of the lead. We have to learn from these mistakes.”
