The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Commissioner’s Office has issued a statement regarding Mandaluyong player Ray Parks’ controversial statements right after his team’s opening day loss to the Muntinlupa Cagers.
In a letter addressed to Parks, MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes told the budding hoops star that he has to abide by the league’s rules and regulations now that he is “part of the MPBL family.”
Duremdes added that repetition of a similar incident would result into a more severe sanction.
“While it’s true that everyone can express their opinion, please bear in mind that you are now part of the MPBL family. You are now representing the MPBL,” Duremdes wrote.
Right after the El Tigre’s opening day loss to the Angelis Resort-backed Cagers, where Parks was called for four offensive fouls, the former National U star went on a tirade against the officiating and issued statements detrimental to the league.
“I’ll be honest, they don’t want me in this league,” Parks told reporters. “First time I’ve ever seen in my life, four offensive fouls. I attended the orientation, I know what the foul is.”
“I’m taking it as a challenge. They don’t want me here. It’s my home. I enjoyed playing in front of the crowd as much as I could. But at the end of the day, it’s just a stepping stone for me,” he added.
Like many basketball fans, Duremdes was excited to see Parks in action as the player boasts impressive credentials. Duremdes was eager to see what act the many-time national player would bring to the 26-team tournament.
He hopes to see Parks reach his full potential in Mandaluyong’s succeeding games. —JUSTIN VALENCIA, TRAINEE
