MANILA, Philippines – SMDC and Grass Residences recently hosted the Alab Pilipinas basketball clinic headed by no other than Alab Pilipinas Coach Jimmy Alapag and fellow pro basketball players, Paolo Javelona, Josh Urbiztondo, Dondon Hontiveros and John Ray Alabanza.

The titans of the court lent their skills and expertise, and spent a fun afternoon with the residents of SMDC Grass Residences. “Here at Grass Residences, the community is very active, and people love basketball to the point that we have 12 teams in our basketball league, and so it is an exciting opportunity for us to welcome these players,” says Donnie Lustre, VP of the homeowners association.

Grass Residences, tucked behind SM City North Edsa, offers an energizing vertical village where homeowners can thrive. Proud to call themselves a “complete community,” Grass Residences boasts of a complete array of amenities including indoor basketball courts – full court and half court, six (6) volleyball courts, six (6) badminton courts, an indoor gym and a crossfit gym, an area for darts and table tennis, as well as six (6) swimming pools – a 50-meter lap pool, adult pools and kiddie pools.

“At SMDC Grass Residences, we not only pride ourselves in our facilities, but also our sense of community. We nurture community through the many activities that we host throughout the year such as sportsfests, swimming classes, group exercises like Zumba, as well as sports clinics like todays,” adds Ms. Catherine Corro, President – Grass Residences Condo Corp (GRCC) Board of Trustees.

For the Alab Pilipinas Clinic, more than 60 participants, from ages 8 to 19, joined the drills and exercises led by coach Alapag and team, and they were more than excited to finally meet their idols in person.

Javelona, Urbiztondo, Hontiveros and Alabanza shared their gratitude for the opportunity: “It always feels great to come together with fellow basketball enthusiasts and share our experience and skills with them. We’re very thankful for SMDC and the Grass Residences community for having us. We can’t wait for the next!”

Coach Jimmy Alapag was further impressed by the sheer talent of the kids and the other athletes who came to learn more from the team. “Please continue to love and support the game, and continue to invite us to these kinds of opportunities. It’s important (for me especially) to reach out to the community because that’s where we get our support from. Without the fans, without the support of the community, there would be no Alab Pilipinas.”

“I’d like to encourage all the kids to join us next time, because we hope to find the next future player of Alab Philipinas here at Grass Residences. And it just might be you!”
