Stanley Pringle exploded for a career-best 50 points as GlobalPort dumped Columbian, 133-115, in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday night.
Pringle also set a league’s season-high and all-time best for GlobalPort, according to PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon. He nailed nine three-pointers in the thrilling performance that went with five rebounds, six assists and three steals.
“Tonight was Stanley’s show. I played like him college,” said head coach Pido Jarencio, one of the deadliest shooters in league history, in jest.
The last player to have reached the 50-point mark was Asi Taulava, who poured 51 points for Talk N’ Text in the 2004 Fiesta Conference.
Pringle’s heroics couldn’t have come at a better time with Batang Pier looking to boost their chances to make the playoffs amid a close race.
They bounced back from their embarrassing 108-135 loss to Phoenix last Wednesday and improved to solo sixth with a 5-5 card.
“Overall, the team really wanted to win. In our last game, it was like we just played scrimmage with Phoenix,” said Jarencio. We couldn’t lose today, if we want to make it to the playoffs.”
Import Malcom White chipped in 28 points and 14 boards, Jonathan Grey had 16 points while Sean Anthony registered a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
The Dyip, meanwhile, are out of the quarterfinals contention with a 4-7 record.
