Philippine cycling is putting together the pieces to form a “Super Team” designed to send a Filipino to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Philippine Olympic Committee chair and Tagaytay City Representative Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino issued the directive to assemble the cream of the crop in elite road cycling based on a stringent and comprehensive criteria.

“We have one full year of achieving the goal of qualifying a Filipino cyclist to the Tokyo Olympics and we want to put together the best of the best in the national team,” said Tolentino, president of PhilCycling, the sport’s local governing body.

Inclusion in the super team would be based on the cyclist’s output in International Cycling Union (UCI) races, continental and national championships and domestic races.
