CEU routs Marinerong Pilipino in heated duel
Centro Escolar University hammered out a heated 97-79 win over Marinerong Pilipino in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The Scorpions improve to 3-2 while the Skippers are tied with Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College at 2-3.
CEU started strong, leading, 30-18, at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
“We talked about it and we know Marinero will play defese and will hold down teams by 78 points. We had to double our efforts and not let them get easy baskets.,” CEU head coach Derrick Pumaren said.
Things got testy between the two teams after Scorpions’ Orlan Wamar Jr. and Jordan Intic and Skippers’ Trevis Jackson fought for the loose ball that nearly led to an all-out brawl at the eight-minute mark of the final frame.
Marinerong Pilipino head coach Koy Banal and Pumaren got slapped with technical fouls while Jerson Prado received a flagrant foul penalty 1.
CEU pounced on Marinerong Pilipino’s sloppy play as it scored 39 easy points off the Skippers’ 26 turnovers.
Wamar led all scorers with 31 points while Pierce Chan added 19 markers for the Scorpions.
Jackson scored 20 poings for the Skippers in a losing effort.
