Generika-Ayala dealt Foton its second straight loss, 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-12, 15-13, in the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Invitational on Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Trailing 6-10 in the deciding set, Lifesavers uncorked a huge 9-3 run capped by a Bang Pineda drop shot for the win to improve to a 2-0 win-loss card.
“This game was height versus defense. I told my team that we have the best receivers and that receiving is first than spiking, the players responded well,” Lifesavers head coach Sherwin Meneses said in Filipino.
Up 14-10 in the fourth frame, Generika-Ayala used an 11-2 surge to force the decider.
Lifesavers delivered 59 attack points while Blue Energy only had 45.
Generika-Ayala had four players in twin digits led by Pineda’s 20, 10 coming from the last two sets.
