Having played under Yeng Guiao in his first three trips to the PBA, Wayne Chism already knows what to expect when he goes up against the fire-breathing coach.
Before being tapped by Magnolia as the team’s fourth import in the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup, Chism suited up for Guiao’s Rain or Shine twice in 2014 and 2015. And when Guiao transferred to NLEX, Chism was brought back again in 2017.
“Definitely,” a grinning Chism told INQUIRER.net on Wednesday after practice when asked if he expects fireworks when he makes his Hotshots debut against Guiao and the Road Warriors on July 4.
“I’m looking forward to it (game). It’s going to be very interesting especially being on the opposite end of coach Yeng and the whole staff and the other players on that team,” he added. “Going against them is going to be kind of weird.”
The 31-year-old Chism also knows what not to do around Guiao.
“I’m going to have to keep my mouth shut. I know how coach is. I really don’t want to push coach’s buttons,” said Chism with a chuckle.
“But if I wanna mess with him a little bit, I might. Just get a smile out of him but other than that, I wouldn’t cross that line with coach.”
Chism hopes to be the missing piece for the Hotshots this conference after two failed experiments with Curtis Kelly and Justin Jackson.
“They wanna finish strong and I’m here to help them finish strong,” he said. “Expect me to be a good teammate, rebound the ball and help lead this team to the playoffs.”
