The Philippine Army will take a five-set win any day in Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference–considering the stakes.
Troopers head coach Rico de Guzman said a winless campaign this conference could have prevented the team from joining other tournaments.
“If we lost today’s game, our commander might not allow us to play in the next conference,” de Guzman said in Filipino.
Philippine Army suffered back-to-back losses in the quarterfinal round before they struck gold against Instituto Estetico Manila in five sets on Wednesday.
The win was a sigh of relief for the Troopers as they finished the conference at fifth place with a 1-2 win-loss card.
They were earlier advised to stop participating in tournaments if they could not produce any wins.
He lauded his men for grinding out the win despite being the underdogs of the tournament.
“We never gave up in even if we looked outmatched against the opponents,” de Guzman said. Ivan Ruiz L. Suing
