MANILA—Far Eastern University destroyed College of St. Benilde, 81-49, to keep its record spotless yesterday in the FilOil-Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Terrence Romeo led the Tamaraws with 14 markers, followed by Hippolyte Noundou’s 12 points and four rebounds as FEU kept its hold of the top spot with a 7-0 win-loss card.
It was lopsided match between teams from opposite sides of the win-loss spectrum, but nothing the Tamaraws are satisfied about.
“Even a sweep in the first round won’t mean a thing. In the finals, it’s against the three other top teams,” said FEU head coach Bert Flores in Filipino.
In the nightcap, defending champion San Sebastian routed Arellano, 82-68, to tie Ateneo and Adamson for second place.
Ian Sangalang led the Golden Stags with 17 points on top of seven rebounds.
Jonathan Semira followed with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Calvin “The Beast” Abueva had 11 markers and 11 rebounds.
Earlier, Jose Rizal University tripped Emilio Aguinaldo College, 74-68, to snap out of a three-game slide.
Nate Matute led the Heavy Bombers to victory with 20 points, including five triples.
