Spotlight on UST, La Salle as UAAP tennis opens

MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas and La Salle seek to continue their dominance in the UAAP Season 74 tennis tournaments starting Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Both the Tigers and Lady Archers are gunning for their third straight titles in the tournament that opens on the same weekend when the volleyball competitions resume.

UST, which has 14 titles in the men’s division, including seven of the last 10, take on rebuilding National U at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Ateneo and University of the Philippines also meet at 9 a.m. with De La Salle and University of the East squaring off at noon, the same time the Lady Eagles will be up against the Lady Maroons.

FEATURED STORIES

Scheduled on Sunday are matches pitting UP against NU and UE against UST at 9 a.m., and De La Salle against Ateneo at noon.

La Salle begins its defense of its women’s title against UST on Sunday. The Tigresses are expected to challenge the Lady Archers for the title this season.

UST and La Salle have split the titles equally the past 10 years.

The volleyball tilt resumes Saturday with Adamson and Ateneo tangling at 9 a.m. and De La Salle and UP at 10:30 a.m. colliding in the men’s division.
