Lim resumes US training

Fully recovered from a right shoulder injury, Albert “AJ” Lim, Jr. is leaving for the United States this Wednesday, looking to regain his confidence and rhythm in time for the Asian Games in Indonesia next month and the Manila Southeast Asian Games next year.

The 18-year-old tennis ace failed to see action in the country’s 4-1 Davis Cup loss to Thailand last April after sustaining the injury while playing for the University of the East in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) last March.

Apart from anchoring the Warriors to the team championship, Lim also won a second straight UAAP Most Valuable Player award.

Lim capped UE’s unbeaten season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ateneo skipper Ino Canlas.

Lim will resume his US training under Filipino-American coaches Orlando Silvosa and Cecil Mamiit, a many-time SEA Games champion, as he also prepares for several Futures tournaments.

“They’re all much experienced players than us so we have to prepare hard,” said Lim, referring to the Philippines’ Asiad rivals.
