Angelis zooms to 3-0 start

Muntinlupa—Angelis Resort leaned on ex-pros Allan Mangahas and Chito Jaime as it pummeled Zamboanga-Family’s Brand Sardines, 85-69, on Wednesday night to extend its unbeaten start to three games in the MPBL Datu Cup at Marist School in Marikina.

Mangahas, who played for Blackwater and Meralco in the PBA, knocked in 18 points and Jaime added 14 for the Cagers, who zoomed to the top of the South Division of the 26-team tournament.

Later, guard Ian Melencio banked in a jumper with 9.1 seconds remaining as Imus-GLC Truck and Equipment spoiled Marikina’s home debut with a pulsating 72-71 win.

Mark Guillen finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, but it was Melencio who made the game’s biggest shot off a Guillen miss.

The win enabled the Bandera to end a two-game slide to start the season, tying their victims at 1-2.

The Bandera put the clamps on Marikina’s leading scorer Yves Sazon, who was held to just seven points after averaging 30 in his first two games.
