San Beda may have claimed the opening day victory against  Perpetual Help, 67-65, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament, but main man Robert Bolick wasn’t happy with how the Red Lions got the win.

Bolick, who was vital in the Red Lions’ closeout of the Altas, took a shot at himself and at the team with how they had just five assists throughout the game.

“Assists are a part of playmaking and I didn’t do a good job, maybe coach Boyet [Fernandez] will let me see the tapes,” said Bolick Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena. “We had five assists compared to 19, we should’ve lost the game.”

In fact, Perpetual’s Edgar Charcos had more assists than the whole San Beda as he finished with seven dimes.

Bolick himself was not a picture of consistency when he shot just 3-of-14 from the field went 8-of-8 from the stripe to finish with 15 points while dishing out three assists.

“That’s bad, 2-of-10 from two-point range, it’s a good thing my free throws were falling but the worst part of this all are the five assists,” said Bolick in Filipino.

Bolick, though, delivered in the final minute of the game when he made the play for Donald Tankoua’s layup for San Beda’s 67-63 lead with 54.8 seconds left.

The senior guard also made his impact on the defensive end when he picked off Charcos’ pass to preserve the victory for the Red Lions.

“We have to do better especially in the assists category, this is my fault,” said Bolick. “And I was also looking too hard for my shots, I should just let the game get to me. I have to fix my assists and practice my outside shooting.”
