Court: POC polls legal
Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas has unloaded a legal burden off his back after the Court of Appeals dismissed the case of the previous administration against him.
The CA 10th Division on Tuesday turned down the petition of the former POC leadership headed by Jose “Peping” Cojuangco to disallow the election which Vargas won almost five months ago.
In a decision penned by Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh, the court rendered the petition as moot and academic and eventually dismissed the case filed by the election committee led by former International Olympic Committee representative Frank Elizalde.
“I am naturally heartened by the decision,” said Vargas, also the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines chief who ended the 14-year reign of Cojuangco.
