Leutcheu, Haruna bench in first half as disciplinary sanction

St. Benilde key cogs Clement Leutcheu and Yankie Haruna played limited minutes in their 85-78 loss to San Sebastian in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament as a disciplinary sanction.

Blazers head coach TY Tang did not disclose the reason for the sanction but said that instilling discipline in the team is more important than winning the game.

“This is the part wherein we’d rather discipline more than being out there on the court and compete to win,” Tang said.

Tang, who benched Leutcheu and Haruna the entire first half, said he wants his wards to succeed beyond the hardcourt.

“We want them to be winners in life more than winners on the court,” he added.

Haruna still finished with 10 points while Leutcheu added six points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The young mentor admitted that lapses in the fourth quarter cost them the game, but is expecting the Blazers to display their top form in their next game against Mapua with Leutcheu and Haruna back to their normal minutes.

“I think our mindset today was not really there, it’s not the mindset that we had during the preseason tournament and I think we have to change that in the next game,” he said. Ma. Angelica D. Garcia, Justin Robert Valencia
