While the extra days of rest allowed some of Ginebra’s players to recuperate, head coach Tim Cone is hoping that the postponement won’t stall the momentum they had going after their Game 1 win.
Cone, though, also welcomed the change of schedule so forward Japeth Aguilar, who is dealing with an injury his left Achilles tendon, can recover faster.
“We’re hoping the cancellation does not halt the momentum we’ve worked for,” said Cone Wednesday in a text message to INQUIRER. “It does, however, help Japeth get nearer to a return to the lineup.”
The Gin Kings stretched their winning streak to eight games after their 102-89 victory to Rain or Shine, the number team in the elimination round, last Sunday.
Cone added that the break works both ways as Rain or Shine also had the opportunity to make some tweaks in its game plan for Game 2.
“The extra day also gives Rain or Shine more time to make adjustments and get ready to bounce back in Game 2,” said Cone. “We expect them to come out with great force so we’ll have to be at the top of our game.”
