Thai takes charge at Southwoods with 65
CARMONA, Cavite—Foreigners dominated first round action of the $75,000-ICTSI Champion Tour at Manila Southwoods on Wednesday, with Thailand’s Ploychompoo Wirairungreung shooting a seven-under-par 65 for a two-stroke lead over two Taiwanese amateurs.
Wirairungreung gunned down four of her seven birdies in the front side and was without a bogey over the soggy Legends course here to lead sisters Hou Yu-Chiang and Hou Yu-Sang by two even as Princess Superal was the lone Filipino in the top 29 with a 70.
“I really had it going. Even when I was in trouble, I would recover and make par saves,” said the 5-foot-11 Wirairungreun, a two-time winner.
Amateurs Sunshine Baraquiel and Harmie Constantino were the next best-placed Filipinos after 73s.
