Local stars stamp class in junior tennis
National stalwarts led the local campaign on Thursday, charging into the quarterfinals of the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the CPSP-Philta International Junior Tennis Championships at Philippine Columbian Association shell/clay courts.
Junior Davis Cuppers Miko Eala and Nio Tria drubbed their rivals to advance on the same day that another national junior player, Carmencita Isabela Carlos, bested a fellow Filipino to make the next round.
Eala, the top seed in the ITF Grade 5 meet, defeated American Arjun Sriram, 6-3, 6-4, while Tria beat countryman Loucas Julian Fernandez, 6-0, 6-4.
Carlos, who stunned No. 7 Lynelle Lim of Singapore in the first round, bested Tracy Llamas, 6-1, 6-3, in the girls’ side.
