Pirates crush erratic Bombers for 3rd straight win

Lyceum continued its hot start and pulverized Jose Rizal University, 88-56, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament on Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Pirates used a huge 24-7 second frame to break away from the Heavy Bombers at halftime, 45-23.

“I told the team that we should not fall into the trap [of thinking] that we are a good offensive team and not repeat the things that we did last game,” said Pirates head coach Topex Robinson.

Lyceum made 30 points off the Heavy Bombers’ 34 errors.

Lyceum rose to 3-0 while JRU slid to 0-2.

Letran fended off San Sebastian, 83-76, for its first win in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament on Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Knights had a seven-point lead midway through the payoff period, 61-54, before igniting a 14-3 blitz to stretch their lead to 16.

“The boys have settled down already and we addressed our previous mistakes. Our leaders really stepped up and they were able to bring up the the team,” said Knights head coach Jeff Napa as they improve to a 1-1 record.

In another match, St. Benilde outgunned Mapua, 90-79.
