University of Santo Tomas steamrolled San Sebastian, 25-21, 25-12, 25-17 in their opening match at the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre Sunday.

Tied at 15-all in the third set, the Tigresses finished off the Lady Stags with a 10-2 run sealed by a service ace by Milena Alessandrini.

“This is the perfect time to hone our new recruits. In this game, they’ve done well but will need more polishing in their game,” UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said in Filipino.

Up 10-6 in the second frame, UST uncorked an 8-1 run capped by an attack error by Lady Stags’ Shannai Requierme and never looked back as they take a 2-0 set lead.

UST managed to snatch a win without top hitters Sisi Rondina and Dimdim Pacres due to their current stints in the Philippine Super Liga.

San Sebastian committed 26 errors compared to UST’s 17. The Tigresses chalked up 37 kills.

Alessandrini led UST with nine points while newcomer Kecelyn Galdones dropped eight markers.

Joyce Sta. Rita led the Lady Stags with nine points.
