David tops AKOC leg 2, but runner-up Suba Italy-bound

Young racing phenom Zach David kept compatriot Joharry Suba at bay with his amazing cornering skill to rule the Mini ROK class of the Petron-sponsored second leg of the 2018 Asian Karting Open Championships (AKOC) at Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Despite yielding the fastest lap time of 49.618 seconds to Suba, David topped two of the three qualifying heats before flashing home the clear winner in the final race with a time of 15 minutes and 54.358 seconds, 3.023 seconds ahead of Suba, over 19 laps.

David, the 10-year-old fourth grader from Keys School Manila, and Suba were followed home by William John Riley Go who timed 15:58.152.

Suba consoled himself with a free plane fare and a slot in the ROK Cup International Final in Lonato, Italy, in October for pooling the most number of points after two legs of AKOC.

Also earning free trips were Bianca Bustamante, the winner of the Formula 125 and X30 Junior classes, and Eduardo “EJ” Coseteng, the victor in the F 125 and X30 Senior categories.
The 12-year-old Bustamante and Coseteng gained berths in the IAME International Cup race in Le Mans, France, also in October.

OTHER WINNERS: Jerry Choi, F 125 Master Open; Ephraim Mandal and William Tan, F 125 Veteran Open; Sen Kawpeng, Cadet class; Jericke Holganza, Clubman class; Jing Garcia, Executive category
