MANILA, Philippines – University of the East and La Salle Zobel stayed perfect in the UAAP high school volleyball tournament over the weekend at the UE Caloocan gym.
Bidding for a remarkable eighth straight crown, the Junior Warriors picked up two more victories to stretch their unbeaten run to seven games in the boys’ division.
The defending champion Junior Archers also continued to dominate the girls’ side with five straight triumphs, the last on a 25-13, 26-24, 26-24 tripping of the University of the Philippines Integrated School.
The Junior Warriors dumped the winless Junior Maroons, 25-15, 25-11, 25-11, and also thrashed La Salle Zobel, 25-9, 25-13, 25-11, in the boys’ matches over the weekend.
National U and University of Santo Tomas share a 5-2 record behind the Junior Warriors, followed by Ateneo (3-4), La Salle Zobel (1-6) and UPIS (0-7).
UE also remains in the hunt in the girls’ side with a second-running 5-1 card to stay ahead of UST (3-3), UPIS (1-5) and NU (0-5).
Meanwhile, the elimination round of the seniors division wraps up Wednesday starting with the men’s matches between Adamson and Ateneo at 9 a.m. and La Salle and UP at 10:30 a.m. at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
In women’s action, Far Eastern University and NU collide at 2 p.m., while Adamson battles Ateneo at 3:30 p.m.
Over at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, softball action also gets going Wednesday with Adamson and La Salle tangling at 8 a.m., UP and UST at 10 a.m. and Ateneo and UE at 12 noon.
