University of Santo Tomas’ young core is starting to turn a lot of heads, flashing talent and maturity in turning back a fighting University of the Philippines, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24 victory Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Later, Adamson stunned erstwhile co-leader Far Eastern U, 30-28, 27-25, 21-25, 19-20, 15-13, to remain unbeaten after three games.
It was a thrilling back-and-forth battle between the Lady Falcons and the Lady Tamaraws who even led, 12-10, in the deciding set. But Adamson pounced on successive errors by FEU to secure the win.
Eya Laure, an incoming rookie in the next UAAP season, joined hands with Tin Francisco and Carla Sandoval in helping the Tigresses bounce back from an opening-set loss and weather a strong UP challenge in the fourth for a 4-0 card.
Laure had 18 points built on 12 kills, five service aces and a kill-block for good measure. Francisco, a journalism major, added 16 points while Sandoval scored 12 off the bench.
