Quiban eyes back-to-back championships in Negros
From the tight Binitin layout to the wider Marapara course, Justin Quiban hopes to dish out the form he flaunted in dominating the ICTSI Bacolod Golf Challenge last week as he guns for a second straight victory in the ICTSI Negros Occidental Classic unfolding Wednesday at Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club. “I have set my sights on win No. 2 here and I hope it works out again,” said Quiban, who broke an eight-month slump with a five-stroke victory over Jay Bayron over the weekend. Quiban, Tony Lascuña and a select group of pros test the Marapara layout one last time in Tuesday’s pro-am tournament where they will be paired with guests and officials.
Emana, Velez annex PPS Manila Polo Club net titles
Mica Ella Emana claimed two titles while John David Velez settled for one in the PPS-PEPP Manila Polo Club National age-group tennis tournament at MPC outdoor courts in Forbes Park, Makati City, over the weekend. The second-seeded Emana trounced No. 1 and doubles partner Marielle Jarata twice—6-1, 6-2 in the girls’ 12-Under and 6-4, 6-1 in the 14-U finals. Velez, on the other hand, crushed Keno Enriquez, 6-0, 6-0, to run away with the boys’ 14-U crown but the Davao ace succumbed to cramps and dropped 4-6, 6-7(6) to Gabriel Gurria in the 16-U finals.
