The NCAA has suspended San Sebastian’s RK Ilagan for three games after the Golden Stag guard was found out to have played in other leagues during the Season 94 men’s basketball tournament.
NCAA Management Committee chairman Frank Gusi of season host University of Perpetual Help said San Sebastian representative Fr. Glyn Ortega, OAR, already withdrew their petition for an appeal regarding Ilagan’s suspension.
Ilagan’s forfeiture also caused a ripple in the team standings with two of the Golden Stags’ wins getting forfeited making their record slip from 3-6 to 1-8.
“The NCAA’s action on this incident, including the sanctions imposed, is in accordance with the existing NCAA Manual of Operations (MOO) and with the best interest of the league and the discipline of student athletes in mind,” said Gusi in a statement.
The Golden Stags’ lone win to withstand was their victory against Mapua since Ilagan was already slapped with the suspension then.
College of St. Benilde and Jose Rizal University were the main benefactors of Ilagan’s suspension as the two schools’ losses to San Sebastian got reversed and its records changed from 1-6 to 4-3.
