Filipino international Neil Etheridge continued his impressive start in the English Premier League as his heroics helped earn Cardiff City’s first point of the season at Cardiff City Stadium over the weekend.
For the second straight match, Etheridge rose to the challenge as he saved another penalty this time against Newcastle striker Kenedy in the sixth minute of stoppage time, allowing the Bluebirds to gain a share of the spoils.
Etheridge also brilliantly foiled Callum Wilson’s penalty in the 0-2 defeat to Bournemouth last week.
And the Azkals goalkeeper continued his sharp form against Newcastle, stopping Kenedy and Ayoze Perez in the first half, underlining his astonishing improvement.
“It’s not the result we wanted because I thought we could have taken all three points, but I’m happy to keep our first clean sheet at home and get points on the board,” said Etheridge. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
