Player of the Week: Basketball never stops for Christian Standhardinger

Christian Standhardinger’s commendable effort on Sunday didn’t go unnoticed.

Not only did the San Miguel Beer rookie forward showed up for San Miguel Beer against NLEX in the PBA Governors’ Cup despite coming off a flight from Jakarta, Indonesia where he represented the Philippines in the Asian Games, he also delivered a career performance.

The Filipino-German bruiser unleashed 36 points on a fiery 14-of-17 shooting from the field that went with 11 rebounds to lead the Beermen over the Road Warriors, 125-112.

His exploits earned his his first PBA Press Corps Player of the Week, beating the likes of Barangay Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar, Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon, Rome dela Rosa and Mark Barrcoa, NLEX’s Kenneth Ighalo, Phoenix’s Jason Perkins and TNT’s Jayson Castro.

Standhardinger was a vital piece as he helped the Philippines clinch fifth place, the country’s best finish in men’s basketball in the Asiad since 2002.
