The country’s leading and up-and-coming amateur players brace for another spirited duel for top honors as they clash in the 18th Canlubang Amateur Open slated Oct. 3 to 5 at Canlubang Golf and Country Club’s North and South courses in Laguna.

Paolo Wong and Yuka Saso topped last year’s staging of the event put up annually by the host club and the Yulo family.

The tournament is generally where members of the national team hone their talent.

Saso shone in the recent Asian Games where she rallied from three down in the final round to claim the individual gold and lead the Philippines to the team championship.

Others expected to compete in the 54-hole event are siblings Jolo and Jonas Magcalayo, Aniceto Mandanas, Paolo Barro in the Championship men’s division and Nicole Abelar, Annyka Cayabyab and Mafy Singson in the distaff side.

Listing is ongoing with deadline set on Sept. 28. For details, call Cangolf Makati and Canlubang offices at (02) 897-6887 or fax (02) 890-9321. You can also e-mail cgcc.makatioffice@gmail.com.
