Steph Curry wasn’t just a normal guest during the opening ceremonies of the 81st season of the UAAP.
The two-time NBA MVP and three-time champion also led the oath of sportsmanship the athletes from the eight member schools recited during the season opener.
Curry is in the Philippines, three years since his first visit, as part of his Under Armour Asia Tour.
The appearance of Curry, though, was just part of the season’s massive opening ceremonies that included performances from Spongecola, James Reid, and K-Pop star Minzy.
NU President and CEO Renato Ermita said the program encapsulates what the host school envisioned Season 81 to be and that is breathing new life into the UAAP.
“Striving for greatness never truly ends,” said Ermita Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena. “It all begins here as we enter a new year of the UAAP. There’s a new vibrance, new enthusiasm in our members of the community.”
“This is beyond competition and we are here to celebrate the value of sports and that sports brings unity and pride to our schools, community, and country.”
