MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas demolished San Beda College, 3-0, to remain unbeaten in the 2nd National Collegiate Billiards League (B-League) at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City over the weekend.
Rodlin John Bautista and Gerthee Estrella proved too tough to handle for San Beda’s Carl Torres and JR Luzon, 5-0, in the 10-ball men’s doubles while Cedric Gonzales and Bautista also won their matches in the 10-ball and 9-ball singles to complete the shutout.
Gonzales overwhelmed Torres, 7-1, and Bautista scored a 7-0 blanking of JM Granatin as the Tigers duplicated their opening-day 3-0 conquest of Pasig Catholic College last week in the meet being supported by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines, Bugsy Promotion and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
San Sebastian College stunned Eastern University, 2-1, while Arellano University and STI downed Pasig Catholic College and University of Makati with the same outcome.
Other matches saw Adamson University topple Trinity University of Asia, 2-1, Technological University of the Philippines nip Letran, 2-1, and defending champion Lyceum subdue AMA Computer University, 2-1.
Defending champion Xavier School edged St. Mary’s School, 2-1, in the junior division after Mikhael Cua crushed St. Mary’s Stephen Rosales, 7-0, in 10-ball singles.
Cua then teamed up with Te in the doubles competition for a 5-3 win over Rosales and Rei Inoue, who prevented a Xavier sweep with a 7-5 upset of Te in the 9-ball singles.
St. Paul proved far more superior over Pasig Catholic College, 3-0, after Eliseo Uytiepo survived John Vargas, 7-5, in 9-ball, Kyle Torrente subdued Claude Fadul, 7-4, in 10-ball and the duo of Uytiepo and Torrente registered a 5-2 victory over Roel Navarro and Ralph Sanches in 10-ball doubles.
