The NCAA suspended its Friday games for the Season 94 men’s basketball tournament in anticipation of the rains and winds to brought about super typhoon “Ompong.”
Managing Committee chair Francisco Gusi said the cancellation of the games is also partly due to the class suspensions by the city government of Manila.
The canceled games are San Sebastian against Arellano University, San Beda against University of Perpetual Help, and Colegio de San Juan de Letran against College of St. Benilde.
“Ompong” will not directly make landfall in Metro Manila but its wide vicinity could still cause light to moderate rains since it will strengthen the still existing southwest monsoon.
As per the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, the eye of “Ompong” was at 560 kilometers northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar as of 4pm.
