The Philippines suffered two straight backbreaking losses after an erstwhile perfect start in the 2018 Asia Rugby Sevens Series Saturday at Hong Kong Football Club.
The Philippine Volcanoes lost to Japan, 36-5, right after falling to host Hong Kong 42-7.
The Japanese will advance to the finals while the Philippines will fell to the qualification stage.
The Volcanoes’ first victory in the tournament was against Korea, 12-7, thanks to the efforts of Joe Palabay Dawson and Ryan Reyes Howe.
Dawson and Howe both had tries for the Philippines with Dawson scoring a conversion against the Koreans.
The Philippines then took out Malaysia in a relatively easier fashion, 26-10, to end its Friday assignments.
