Guangzhou advances to Terrific 12 semis after OT win over Ulsan Hyundai

MACAU—Guangzhou got through by the skin of its teeth after coming away with a 98-97 overtime win over Ulsan Hyundai in the group stage of the Asia League The Terrific 12 Wednesday at Studio City Events Center here in Macau.

The Long Lions advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with a 2-0 record in Group A while the Chiba Jets and Mobis Phoebus got eliminated.

Marreese Speights sent the game into overtime with a three-pointer, 89-all, with 1:01 left in regulation while Kyle Fogg hit the dagger in the extra frame.

Fogg’s jumper put the Long Lions up, 98-94, with 1:08 to go in the game and all Guangzhou did was hold off the Mobis Phoebus’ charge.

Shannon Shorter had a chance to win the game for the Mobis Phoebus but he missed his jumper with three seconds left.

Fogg led Guangzhou with 34 points while Speights had 30 points and 10 boards.

Shorter had 38 points for Ulsan Hyundai while former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe, who now goes by Ra Gunah as his Korean name after getting naturalized, put up 37 points and 16 rebounds.
