Pradera penalty keeps S’woods up

DAVAO—Sunshine Baraquiel atoned for a forgettable second round and Manila Southwoods caught a break after the third round skirmish Friday to remain three points up on powerhouse defending champion Pradera Verde in the 13th PAL Ladies Interclub golf championship.

Failing to count on Thursday, Baraquiel fired a two-over-par 74 worth 52 points at Rancho Palos Verdes here and anchored the Carmona-based squad to a 150 for the day as Southwoods regained the lead as quickly as it lost it after Pradera’s Seoyun Shin was disqualified for signing the wrong scorecard.

Mafy Singson accounted for 50 points and Annika Guangco chipped in with 48 as Southwoods takes a 460 aggregate into Saturday’s final 18 holes where Yuka Saso hopes to lead Pradera to a mighty comeback for a second straight championship.

Shin would have counted with a 52 and Pradera lost three points when it counted either 49s of Charlyne Chong Shinling and Annyka Cayabyab after Shin was DQ’d for signing for a par on the par-5 8th instead of a bogey.

Malaysian Zulaikah Nasser shot 52 points to lead Pradera to its third round output of 150.
