Archers, Tamaraws notch 2nd wins via routs
La Salle notched its second consecutive win after trouncing University of the East, 82-72, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday night at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Aljun Melecio waxed hot from the 3-point area, going 5-of-7, to finish with 18 points, while Justine Baltazar recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds that went with three blocks for the Green Archers, who upped their mark to 2-1.
The Archers put the game away in the third quarter where they widened the gap to 20, 57-37, after a basket by Santi Santillan with 1:49 remaining.
The Red Warriors relied heavily on Alvin Pasaol anew. The explosive forward had 20 points on 8-of-20 from the field, four days after dropping 36 points in a 90-76 loss to league-leading Adamson on Wednesday.
UE, which struggled with a 31-percent shooting, remained the only winless team at 0-3.
Encho Serrano and Jollo Go added 11 and 10 points, respectively for DLSU.
Earlier, Far Eastern University banked on a strong start to dump University of the Philippines, 89-73.
Five Tamaraws scored in double figures, led by a perfect offensive game from Prince Orizu, who had 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field.
Arvin Tolentino scored 13 off the bench while Wendell Comboy added 12 points and five rebounds for the Tams.
FEU, which posted its second win in three outings, scored eight unanswered points to start the game and never trailed.
