Tacloban bounced back from an opening day defeat by destroying Iriga, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19, Wednesday night in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Jovielyn Prado and Heather Guino-o drilled in 13 points apiece to carry the Fighting Warays to their first win, redeeming themselves from a stinging defeat to PetroGazz (25-22, 25-14, 26-24).
“This is a good win because it boosted our morale. We were able to recover from that ugly loss where we played badly,” said Tacloban coach Nes Pamilar in Filipino. “Now we were able to adjust and get back to our organized game once more.”
It was the Oragons’ second defeat in as many matches, after dropping to BanKo-Perlas in the inaugurals (25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-9).
Tacloban dominated the match on both offense and defense, outpointing Iriga (40-33) and committing fewer errors (16-24).
Kyle Negrito added six points for Tacloban while tossing 20 excellent sets. Judith Abil and Menchie Tubiera chipped in 13 points each.
Pocari-Air Force banked on Myla Pablo to thwart PetroGazz, 25-20, 29-31, 25-15, 17-25, 15-5, later in the night.
