Tough Warays bare fangs

Jovielyn Prado unloaded 18 points as Tacloban drubbed Adamson-Akari, 25-21, 25-12, 25-22, on Sunday for its second win in a row in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Of her game-high output, the underrated smasher from NCAA champion team Arellano University spiked 15 and kill-blocked three, aside from making 10 excellent digs for the Fighting Warays.

Tacloban coach Nes Pamilar said the Fighting Warays are slowly getting used to his system.

“We are practicing defense for the last two days, hopefully we continue to improve because our defensive lapses are our main concern,” said Pamilar.

Indeed, Tacloban made things miserable for Adamson at the net, scoring 11 points off kill-blocks in the Lady Falcons’ maiden match of the conference.

“Hopefully next time we fix our floor defense,” added Pamilar.

Heather Guino-o and Mary Anne Esguerra added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Fighting Warays.

Adamson put up a semblance of a fight late in the third when it led, 21-19, only to be met by Tacloban’s fiery 6-1 finish.
