College of St. Benilde enjoyed some sort of Cinderella run in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament but it looks like the clock’s about to hit midnight.
The Blazers; 77-55 loss to defending champion San Beda dropped them to the fifth seed, which no. 4 Perpetual two games ahead at 10.5
“We can’t do anything about it, we just have to keep fighting and keep trying to survive until there is hope for our season,” said head coach TY Tang in Filipino Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Despite the bleak chance, Tang wants his team to just keep fighting with three more games left in the Blazers’ season.
St. Benilde would have to rely on either Perpetual or Colegio de San Juan de Letran to start losing some of its games for the Blazers to have a chance at the last two remaining Final Four spots.
San Beda and last year’s runner-up Lyceum both hold 14-1 records and have locked up the top two seeds of the ladder.
Tang added it’s natural for the team to feel downtrodden after their loss to the Red Lions but he wants the defeat to serve as a lesson to them moving forward.
“We look at it as room to grow, to learn, to improve,” said Tang whose team finished 4-14 in his first year in Season 93. “These are the things that an athlete will take stories from. These are the stories they will remember one day if we become successful in the things we want to be.”
